NetPresenz 4.0 had a security hole which allowed you to get anonymous FTP access to the guest volumes even if you disallowed guest access (note that you could still never access more than AppleShare allowed which is all I guarentee - moral: Always ensure your AppleShare access privs are correct!)
What’s New in NetPresenz 4.0?
NetPresenz was previously called “FTPd”. This is the same program, albeit a new version. If you have a license to FTPd, that license is automatically a license to use NetPresenz (although there is an upgrade fee if you purchased FTPd prior to Jan 1, 1995).
NetPresenz now has full CGI support in the web server. NetPresenz now includes CGI and comes with a bunch of example CGI scripts.
NetPresenz is Open Transport native. The file transfer code was entirely rewritten to take advantage of Open Transport. Hopefully the transfers will be noticeably faster and also hopefully NetPresenz will not slow down your machine too much when it’s not working too hard (obviously if it’s transferring hundreds of k per second, your machine is going to be pretty busy doing this).
NetPresenz supports the resume command in FTP. This allows transfers to be restarted when using some FTP clients.
Make sure you are running System 7.5.1 or later. System 7.5.1 fixes lots of problems with personal file sharing and also adds lots of other cool things. If you have any problems and report them to me, the first thing I’m likely to tell you to do is to install a clean System 7.5.1.
